African-PREDICT

African Prospective study on the Early Detection and Identification of Cardiovascular disease and Hypertension

Description

The African-PREDICT study is a longitudinal cohort study investigating the early development and progression of hypertension and cardiovascular disease in young, healthy adults. Approximately 1,200 Black and White adults aged 20 to 30 years were recruited and assessed between 2013 and 2017 from Potchefstroom and surrounding areas in the North West Province of South Africa. Participants were enrolled through community health workers, workplace outreach, and public advertisements, with efforts to include individuals from low-, middle-, and high-socioeconomic backgrounds. The cohort is planned to be followed up on every five years.
